Trader Joe’s Pork Loin Roast Bone In

Trader Joe’s Bone in Pork Loin Roast. I was a little surprised to see this in the refrigerated section a couple of days ago at my local Trader Joe’s.  I love bone in Pork Loin roast! It’s basically the pork chop that hasn’t been separated from each other and in my mind make one of the best pork roasts you can find. The bone keeps the meat moist and if you take the loin away from the bones many times it just dries out when you bake it. Leaving the bones intact preserves a lot of that moisture and keep the meet really tender.

Well, I just had to pick up this roast and have it for dinner one night. Which is good because I know my kids will eat it! When I got it home, I pulled the cover off the box and inside was a pre-cooked, shrink wrapped roast that weighed about 4lbs if I remember correctly. I could see that it had been seasoned, but from the looks of it there was just salt and pepper from what I could tell. On the side of the product, they describe a couple of ways to prepare it. The first being in the microwave and pork and the microwave is never a good thing! Tends to dry the meat out too quickly so what I did was just make it the way I always make pork loin roasts and that is to stick it in a Dutch oven, or in this case, my favorite Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 5-1/2-Quart Round French Oven. I know these ovens are expensive, but really you only buy them once in your life and they are worth every penny IMHO.

I have to say that it turned out really good! Like I said, I do what I normally do to cook a pork loin roast. Normally, I would brown it first, then put it in the oven and bake for a while. I skipped that step this time and just scattered some carrots, onions and celery around the roast. I drizzle a little olive oil on the roast and then ground a bunch of the Trader Joe’s lemon pepper salt on the roast. Put it in the oven with the lid on the pot at 350 for about an hour.  Make sure you dump the juices from the bag into the pot when you go to cook it. There was plenty of juices to make gravy or whatever when we took the roast out.

Final Product

When I compared to a freshly bought pork roast, the pre-cooked one was slightly drier in texture but the flavors were all there. Not something that anyone else noticed and it hardly detracted from the great flavors of the roast. If you want to try it, I would get one soon because they will probably go away when the Turkeys come in early November. I will definitely be buying this again! I am going to rate the Trader Joe’s Bone In Pork Loin Roast 8 Bells!
