It’s Pumpkinfest at Trader Joe’s right now! I like to call it Pumpkinpalooza. This time of the year Trader Joe’s is chocked full of pumpkin flavored products (or at least they are orange in color!) You know it’s the run-up to Halloween when sometime in the middle of September all the summer stuff gets replaced with pumpkin colored goodness and the air smells of pumpkin spice!
This product has been a recurring seasonal product for well over 10 years. This is in addition to their lineup of fruit cereal snack bars all named for the fruit that walks into a bar, so as This Apple walks into a bar… or a Blueberry walks into a bar. For this one, it is This Pumpkin walks into a bar! Trader Joe’s has several of these bars. I think Fig, Blueberry, Apple, and now Pumpkin. I listed them as one of my top choices for Kid Friendly foods!
I like all their bars, but my two boys only will eat the Blueberry ones. I showed them the Pumpkin bars and they wrinkled their noses but I told them to give it a try and they both hesitantly took a little nibble and quickly spit it out! But they can be picky eaters. In reality, they are not that bad. To me, they had the same texture and everything as the other cereal bars they sell. They have a lovely aroma of the pumpkin pie spice melange. I think they taste great!
When I put it in my mouth, I really liked the spices in it. I thought it was very similar in flavor to the fig bars, but when I looked at the ingredients there weren’t any similar spices. Mostly it is sugar and pumpkin as the filling. I kind of wished there was more filling. Anyway, I really liked it. My kids really liked them. Too bad they are only a couple of months a year.
Trader Joe’s trying to inject as much pumpkin into our diet this time of year and that’s probably a good thing seeing how good pumpkin is for you! My kids may not like plain old pumpkin but your kid’s might and it’s a cool twist on the season. I ate the whole box and loved it. I just wish there was a little more pumpkin in them. Great snack to throw in the kid’s lunch box.
