Anyway, This is about Speculoos not pumpkin but the funny thing is that they are related in the fact that Trader Joe’s likes to release new Speculoos products in the winter months, especially during the holidays when sweets consumption is at an all time high. I just reviewed the latest Speculoos product which I didn’t think was the best effort to date. I wasn’t fond of the “creme” in the dark chocolate cookie butter and creme. I liked the dark chocolate part quite a bit and I think dark chocolate has a natural affinity to speculoos cookie butter.
I do think this product is a bit of genius, but I could’ve predicted it’s arrival. I think anything they can put speculoos into (cakes, cookies, ice cream, yogurt, bars, etc) will get the treatment eventually. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if there wasn’t 20+ items in the store that have some speculoos in them in the not too distant future. Which is fine by me because I love the stuff.
S0, what we have here is a riff on the dark chocolate peanut butter cups that have been around a long time. Dark chocolate speculoos cookie butter filled cups. What could be better! I really like the spicy cookie butter and the way it integrates with the earthy, winey, fruity flavors of the dark chocolate. They have almost the same exact consistency of the peanut butter cups (which I would give a very high rating too!). How can you go wrong with these? I bought a box of them and stuck them in my desk at work to snack on all day, but I can’t do that forever or I’m going to start putting on the pounds!
Trader Joe’s keeps stuffing cookie butter into just about anything they can and I’m sure they are not over. I love the combo of the dark chocolate and cookie butter and I think they go so well together. The presentation in the cup form is awesome and I wouldn’t be afraid to put out a bowl of these when guests some over.
I am going to give the Trader Joe’s Speculoos Cookie Butter Dark Chocolate cups 9 Bells!
