I’ve been doing this blog for several years and I can’t believe I haven’t done a review of Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups! I was recently reviewing the most popular items from 2016 and Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups were ranked number 2 behind the Mandarin Orange Chicken.

The reason I can’t believe that I haven’t reviewed these is that I buys these almost every week and it’s one of those things that you buy and forget about. Trader Joe’s has a lot of different variations on these peanut butter cups, but these are my favorite ones and the way my kids go through them, they really love them too!

Trader Joe’s probably started off by making the milk chocolate peanut butter cups to compete with Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups. Which they did a great job! I think when you break the price down, they are about $0.20 per equivalent of a Reece’s cup, which as you know from buying them at a grocery store, is waaaay less.

But this isn’t about the milk chocolate peanut butter cups, it about the DARK chocolate cups. Which, if can quote Spinal Tap, takes them to an 11! The mixture of dark chocolate and peanut butter is one of the best mixes you can have in the confection world. I love the crunch and wine-like flavor of the dark chocolate and then mixing with the salty, smoothness of the peanut butter.

Trader Joe’s says that the dark chocolate is sourced from farms on the western side of Africa and the Peanuts are slowly roasted and sourced from Virginia farms. Looking at the ingredients list, it’s pretty much just chocolate, peanut butter and sugar. Each tub contains 36 cups and they go for $4.29 a “tub” which works out to $0.12 per cup.

These don’t last very long at my house. They are one of the family favorites from Trader Joe’s. I don’t have any issues throwing a few in the kid’s lunch as their “treat” during lunch time. The problem with these is that I can eat handfuls of these things and make myself sick on them. Having said all that, I am going to rate these a perfect 10 Bells. What could be better!

  1. […] I might be late to the game on these but wow, are they addicting. These dark chocolate pretzels are everything I want in a snack: sweet, salty, and perfectly poppable. I have yet to “just have one” when I claim my intentions into the abyss, but what can I say? I’m here for a good time, not a long time. These tasty treats have earned a permanent spot in my refrigerator next to my beloved TJ’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups. […]
