Trader Joe’s Pizza Dough – How to make a pan pizza at home

If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you know I love pizza. We eat it a couple of times a week here at my house. With two growing boys, we have to keep up with their appetites and one thing I know is that pizza is great way to fill them up!

I wanted to share two methods to make perfect pizza at home with Trader Joe’s dough. I prefer their plain dough, but the whole wheat and herbed dough will also work exactly the same for both these recipes.

The first one I am going to make is the pan pizza. This is so simple, you’ll never buy frozen pizza again! You just push the dough on the pan and top it up and bake it. Pretty simple if you ask me!  First let’s get to the ingredients list:

  • Trader Joe’s Pizza Dough (plain, herbed or whole wheat)
  • Trader Joe’s Pizza Sauce
  • Trader Joe’s Whole Milk Mozzarella or Quattro Formaggio
  • Pepperoni (varies by Trader Joe’s locations)
  • Trader Joe’s Dried Oregano
  • Any other topping you want to put on! Mushrooms, veggies, pineapples, whatever!

Let’s get to the steps:

First preheat your oven to 425.

Start with a bag of Trader Joe’s Pizza Dough. I like the plain one the best. You will need a sheet pan for this recipe.
For my pepperoni pizza, I use the Volpi pepperoni, Trader Joe’s whole milk mozzarella and Trader Joe’s Arrabiata sauce. I like this sauce because it has more flavor and spice than the regular pizza sauce, but use whatever you like!
First we take the dough out of the bag and put it on an oiled baking sheet and let it rest for about 30 minutes covered with plastic wrap
Letting the dough rest lets it rise a bit more and warm up. It also softens the dough a bit so it’s easier to form. Push the dough out towards all the corners, completely filling the sheet pan
Spread the sauce out as far as you want. Some people like to go all the way to the edge and some like a margin to hold on to.
Now add the shredded cheese on top.
Then I put on the pepperoni and sprinkle with dried oregano.

Then pop it in the oven in a middle rack. Bake for about 15 minutes, but keep an eye on it so it doesn’t burn.

Voila! It’s done! cut with a knife or pizza cutter right in the pan.
