Trader Joe’s and the Astounding Multi-Flavor Joe Joe’s. This one the reasons I like Trader Joe’s so much, they don’t take themselves all that seriously. Some of their packaging can be brilliant and other times just plain ugly. I’m not sure what to make of the box for this assortment of cookies. Wildly colorful and a reference to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the name. It even says on the description on the front of the box: “A collection of past and present Joe-Joe’s sandwich cookies DECADENTLY ENROBED in various chocolates with drizzles and sprinkles.” They have that right!
This has to be one of the most decadent things that Trader Joe’s comes out with every year. I first saw this last year (2011) and bought the box but never got the chance to write the review. Not this year! I jumped on this as one of my first Christmas oriented products. I thought this was one of the most “astounding” products they have ever come out with. If you like cookies and chocolate, then this is for you!
Let’s break this down. You get four different cookies in this hexagon shaped box. You get six of each, which is plenty for one person, but if you want to put them out for the holidays these would make a great plate of cookies, but there is one tiny problem which I will cover in a bit. The four cookies you get in this very cool box are: Double Chocolate with a drizzle of milk chocolate, Peppermint (which I reviewed on their own last year), Peanut Butter with a dark chocolate drizzle. peanut butter filling and Ginger, which are Joe Joe’s dipped in white chocolate with ginger snap sprinkles. What’s not to like here?
You could try and sit down and eat a whole box of these, but you wouldn’t get far. Each cookie has 130 calories(!) x 24 and that 3120 calories in a whole box and that would give you a major tummy ache! It’s better to savor each cookie on it’s own but being the reviewer guy here I had to sample one of each and I only took a nibble from each one and saved the rest for later.
So what did I think? Again, I think my favorite is the Peppermint ones. These are the same Candy Cane Joe Joe’s that you can buy as a separate item but dipped in Dark Chocolate and sprinkled with crushed candy canes! The filling of the cookies is a peppermint candy cane flavor and is colored pink! I thought it was perfect for the Christmas holiday. Very innovative cookie! Still rated 9 bells.
My next favorite of the bunch is the Dark Chocolate dipped Joe Joe’s drizzled with a bit of milk chocolate. These Joe Joe’s are filled with a dark chocolate filling. I just loved the quadruple hit of chocolate between the filling, the cookie, the dip and then the drizzle on the outside. Crazy amounts of chocolate in a small bundle, but the flavor will stay with you a long time! Also 9 Bells.
My third favorite in the box is the Peanut Butter filled Joe Joe’s with a a milk chocolate dip and drizzled with dark chocolate. It’s kind of like a souped up Reese’s Cup with a cookie in it. We all know that chocolate and peanut butter work really good. My only complaint on this one is that it’s dipped in Milk Chocolate and I really, really like dark chocolate and with peanut butter all the better! I am going to rate this on 8 bells.
The last on my list and I’m sure it’s the last on many people’s list. My kids won’t even touch them but I like them well enough but faced with the choice of dark chocolate dipped Joe Joe’s and White Chocolate ones, I will always go for the dark chocolate dipped ones first. What we have is the regular Joe Joe’s filled with white chocolate and then dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with ginger snaps. Becky really likes these and I really like the ginger snaps on top and it all works really good together. Just not my favorite of the bunch. I am going to rate this one 8 bells also.
The only real flaw for this whole box is that the toppings get messed up from getting smashed together in the box. You can see it in the pictures I took. Still tastes great, but if you want a realy visual representation of what you’ll get, see my pictures.
If I remember last year, these ran out quickly so get a box while they last!
