Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Tortilla Chips Review – We eat a lot of tortilla chips around Club Trader Joe’s. I have two teenage boys that eat me out of house and home and always looking for a different but semi-healthy snack that they can eat. Salsa and chips are big around our house as a snack so when I saw these, I grabbed them thinking they would be interesting take on traditional tortilla chips. Plus these are gluten free and vegan for all of you out there at care about that.

First off let me describe what these are. They are regular tortilla chips with some pumpkin puree and pumpkin seeds added into the corn. The chips look like normal chips but they are a slightly darker color than your normal yellow corn tortilla chips. They also seem more crunchy, or brittle than regular ones. It could be the pumpkin puree doing that.

But of course this is pumpkin spice season, so Trader Joe’s has decided to put there twist on them and put cinnamon and nutmeg on them to make them taste like all the other products they have with pumpkin spice in them. But unfortunately these fall completely flat. I understand what Trader Joe’s is trying to do here but it just doesn’t work very well. They mention on the bag that these chips are supposed to be sweet, but they aren’t. Not that I wanted sweet tortilla chips. But the biggest problem with these is the cinnamon and nutmeg.

I tried eating them plain with some guacamole and salsa. Eating them plain is the worst. All pumpkin spice. Yuck. That is not what I want on my tortilla chips.

Then if you dip them in something else, you don’t get that much of that punch of pumpkin pie spice mélange up  front. Still it’s there, lurking in the background. It’s just not my cup of tea to be honest. I know some people think these are a great product, but from my perspective Trader Joe’s should just stop selling these. As I mentioned before these are vegan and gluten free.

Due to the weird pumpkin spice flavors, I am going to give these 3 Bells!

  1. Would like to respectfully disagree! I think they are quite delightful but maybe i’m partial to unconventional flavor profiles…hmm..tastes like the smell of a sweet potato with marshmallows roast, oven and all.
