Trader Joe’s loves their snacks. I don’t think a week goes by without them releasing some new wacky idea. Who can forget the Bollywood Popcorn with Tikka Masala seasoning? Or the Pickle flavored Popcorn? Who could forget? We all did… But thank goodness Trader Joe’s keeps us on our toes. In another round of who really needs these snacks, Trader Joe’s has released something called Baked Pizza Flavored Pillow Crisps.
I’ll keep this pretty short because there isn’t a whole lot to this product. Trader Joe’s has found a supplier on the island of Sardinia that makes these crisps. I found them just by searching on the web and they are called RAFF srl. Zona Industriale Prato Sardo and the product they make is called Cuscinetti Croccanti
They appear to come in a variety of flavors including Truffle, Pecarino, Rosemary, and Sea Salt.
This company must have a proprietary method for making these crisps and I think they are a really interesting idea. The crisps are really hollow and crispy without a lot of fat like potato chips.
One bag barely has three servings and each serving is 130 calories so you would be eating a lot of these in one sitting.
They are very lightweight and thin and crispy when you put them in your mouth. Almost impossibly lightweight. I didn’t try to dip them in anything but I am afraid that unless you had a very thin dip, they would just shatter.
They seemed to be healthier than something like corn chips or potato chips because they don’t have a lot of oil, only three grams of oil per serving which is less than half of that of most potato chips.
The flavor of these is quite interesting because I thought I was eating pepperoni pizza. It’s got all those flavors, tomato, oregano, fennel from the pepperoni and maybe a hint of red pepper although there is no heat involved. It truly is like eating a crunchy tiny pizza without the cheese.
Final Verdict
These Trader Joe’s Baked Pizza Flavored Pillow Crisps clock in at $1.99 for 3.5 oz bag which is pretty cheap for a snack. I see a lot of kids really liking these although as an adult, I wish Trader’s would’ve imported the cheese or truffle flavored ones instead. Maybe they will do that later because I see these sticking around for a long time!
I am going to give them Seven 7 Bells out of 10 for uniqueness and flavor!

I actually just got these and tried them this week. They are pretty good (fairly low calorie). I would love to try others.
I’ve tried dipping them in hummus and it makes a HUGE difference! Much better! Otherwise, they’re pretty bland.
Nice idea! Hummus isn’t too thick like some cheese dips. I need to run to Traders and pick up some dips!
