Trader Joe’s Gluten Free 3 Cheese Pizza. I am always on the hunt for a good frozen pizza for that quick and easy lunch/dinner and when I don’t want to make one from scratch. As you probably know, Trader Joe’s has a plethora of frozen and refrigerated pizzas. More than you could possibly taste on your own. There is BBQ pizza, cheese pizza, Alsatian tarts. I was looking through the frozen pizza section and a new box jumped out at me so I grabbed one.
I am not someone that tries to avoid wheat, and I know there are many of you out there that have special dietary restrictions and if you love pizza, but don’t want to make it from scratch and still be gluten free. This pizza might be for you!
This pizza crust is mainly made out of rice flour and potato starch and you can see from the rest of the ingredients that it’s pretty wholesome and just straight up ingredients, crust, tomato sauce, tomatoes, and three different cheese,s and finally some basil. I turned on the oven to 450 degrees and took the pizza out of the box. It had a fairly good heft and seeing how much it weighed, I knew it would be just enough to fill me up for lunch.
This is a thin, crisp style of crust and I wouldn’t bake it on a stone, you might overcook the crust. I’m not usually a thin and crispy pizza guy myself, but the thin crispy is really the only way to go on frozen pizza IMHO. I put the pizza in the oven and baked it for the prescribed amount of time and took it out with my metal pizza peel. I highly recommend getting this metal pizza peel: Kitchen Supply 14-Inch x 16-Inch Aluminum Pizza Peel with Wood Handle it comes in three sizes. I always recommend having two peels. One metal and one wood/composite peel. The metal one is better at getting pizzas off the baking stone if you get into a sticky situation.
So how did the pizza taste and would I buy it again? First, I would definitely buy it again! It was one of the better frozen pizzas I’ve ever had from Trader Joe’s or just about anywhere else! The fact that it is Gluten Free was just icing on the cake if that is something you care about. The crust was thin and crispy and had a nice snap to it.
The sauce was nice and thick, not too sweet, and just enough of it there. Then that was topped with whole slices of real tomatoes. Then on top of that was a mix of three kinds of cheese, Provolone, Mozzarella, and Manchego which thought was a great combination of cheeses and for once Trader Joe’s didn’t really skimp too badly on the cheese. I’m a cheese head so there is never enough cheese on my pizza, but this was sufficient. You can also see a sprinkling of basil leaves on top. I really liked the whole thing and it was enough for me!
Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Three Cheese Pizza is sure to be a hit at Trader Joe’s. They keep outdoing themselves with these frozen pizzas and I hope one day they can come up with a pizza that’s close to homemade, but I’m not holding my breath. If you are Gluten Free and want a pizza fix and I should mention this is vegetarian too, then run out and stock up on these.
I am going to give the Trader Joe’s Gluten Free 3 Cheese Pizza a big 9 Bells!
