Trader Joe’s Kona Coffee Shortbread Cookies

Trader Joe’s Kona Coffee Shortbread Cookies

Trader Joe’s Kona Coffee Creamy Half-Dipped Shortbread Cookies. I’m having one of those Reese’s Peanut Butter cup moments. Who put peanut butter in my chocolate things… But in this case it’s who put coffee in my shortbread cookies! What genius, now you can skip the step of having to drink your morning coffee and just eat some cookies laced with coffee!

At first I was thinking that coffee in cookies would be something really weird, but there is coffee flavored ice cream, coffee flavored beer, coffee candy, coffee in chocolate…. so why not? Actually, coffee and chocolate share many of the same flavors. Dark, roasted, bitter flavors that we like sooo much!

On the box, they say that the coffee comes from Kona on the Big Island in Hawaii. I’m proud to say that I’ve actually been there! I went to visit my uncle about 10 years ago. He was trying out retirement on the big island in a town called Kailua Kona and it was a wonderful visit. I highly recommend going to Hawaii at least once in your lifetime if you can. I’ve been to Oahu, Maui and Hawaii and the big island was my favorite of my three trips. Anyway, they’ve been growing coffee on the big island for almost 200 years. Some of the finest coffee in the world is grown there! (By the way, Kona just means leeward or dry side of a island) On the box, they say 100% Kona Coffee which means that they are 100% from the Kona region on the big island of Hawaii. No blends here.

These are shortbread cookies infused with little bits of coffee grounds and then half dipped in a vanilla like icing that has more coffee bits in it. It adds up to a great combination! The coffee is not overwhelming by any means. I don’t think it would be enough to perk you up in any way, but has a nice coffee, roastiness that I really liked. The icing, is well, the icing on the cookie! The coffee in the icing works really nicely as an enhancement to the buttery softness of the cookies.

Well, what can I say? I would definitely put these out if we were having guests over for coffee. They would work really nicely with coffee. Maybe you would even want to dip them in your coffee! That would be an interesting treat! I really like these cookies. I don’t expect them to be around much after the holidays. They feel like something that will have a short shelf life, but if you are into cookies and need something to serve at the next Coffee Klatch, by all means pick some up! I am going to rate these 8 bells!
