Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Macarons

Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Macarons. I feel like I’m in the Cinderella story where I’m going to turn into a pumpkin pretty soon! All this pumpkiny goodness everywhere this time of the year. On to the next pumpkin treat. I had been hearing buzz on the internet about these Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Macarons and how mind boggling good they were, but I hadn’t seen them in my local store until a couple of days ago. I really wanted to try these with Becky and the kids and were finally all sitting down to Sunday dinner when I pulled them out of the freezer.

I was pretty familiar with Macarons having consumed large quantities of them while living in Europe and remember fondly when Becky and visited the Alsace part of France a few years back and all the bakeries would hand out Macaron samples to people passing by on the street as samples. Man, where they good! So, I was really looking forward to trying these, especially having them filled with some pumpkin goodness!

So, you get 12 Macarons in the box. They are in the freezer section. You need to handle the box with care because those Macarons are pretty fragile. (Don’t put them at the bottom of your bag!) When you are ready to enjoy them, you need to pull them out of the freezer about 30 minutes beforehand and let them thaw out gradually. If you don’t want 12 Macarons (You will, I promise!) then only take a few out, put them on a plate and cover with a paper towel. I dare you to eat just one! They are that good!

The macarons have two cookie sides with a filling in between. The cookie sides should be made from a meringue type of mixture and died a color. Sometimes they are brightly colored. These were colored orange, of course. The these are usually filled with genanche, jam or almond meal. The Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Macarons are filled with pumpkin puree and almond meal.

So anyway, I put these out for the family after dinner and I tried one first and then everyone else tried one. I ate two, but if I wasn’t full from dinner I would’ve had about six of them! Becky ate four! She wanted to give them 10 bells! The filling is creamy and smooth and the pumpkin pie spice mixture is just right. These are not too sweet, which I really like and the out cookie shells are very delicate. I would say that they are too delicate. They kind of fall apart if you handle them too roughly and with my big man hands it was hard not to destroy the cookie part. I don’t remember the macarons I’ve had before being so delicate. Sure, they were delicate, but not that bad. But once you get them in your mouth, they are amazing. Go out and buy these by the dozen and amaze your friends at Thanksgiving dinner!

Both Becky and I were super impressed by the delicate pumpkin pie flavors and she thought they were ethereal. I thought the flavors were really great and eating just one is nearly impossible. The one markdown I gave them was how super delicate they are and easy to destroy before you put them in your mouth. Having said all that, I am going to rate these Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Macarons 9 Bells!
