Trader Joe’s Ghost Pepper Potato Chip Review

Trader Joe’s Ghost Pepper Potato Chips

Trader Joe’s Ghost Pepper Potato Chip Review – I have to admit that I am not much of a chili head. Which is funny because I have lived in Thailand and used to love the heat when I was a teenager.

I like some good heat but not the type that makes your eyes water and your stomach burn anymore. I remember when the Ghost Pepper became a thing back in the mid-aughts (2005?) and people who wanted to have their face melt were seeking it out as the Guinness World Records named it the hottest chili pepper in the world in 2007, but has been supplanted as the hottest a few different peppers now, but it is still enough to melt your tongue.

Trader Joe’s Ghost Pepper Potato Chips

Trader Joe’s has had these on the shelf for a long time and my chili head son wanted to try these Ghost Pepper potato chips, so I obliged him on our last trip to Trader Joe’s.

I’ve never had a real ghost pepper in real life and it’s probably a good thing since I wouldn’t probably have a tongue anymore because of the heat. Fresh ghost peppers are very red when they are ripe and that is a color that most people associate with these peppers.

When I opened the bag, I expected a little bit of red color just to match the color of the peppers, but they weren’t. They are a light brownish color, which is pretty normal on potato chips. But they are Ghost Pepper potato chips! They should be a little red…

The one thing I did like about them was the lattice cut. I wish more chips would do this. It brings some extra texture and crunch to the chips, which I really like.

All in all, if you like your potato chips spicy hot, then these might be for you. They aren’t really my cup of tea because they are pretty hot, so I’ll probably not ever buy them again although my chili head son thought they were barely spicy. If you like heat then get these.

  1. I’m sorry. I wanted to like these chips, but I just didn’t. The main reason why is the salt content!! These are the saltiest chips I’ve ever attempted to eat. There is simply no excuse for chips to be so excessively salty!!! I couldn’t finish even one of them.
