This is a review of Trader Joe’s Maple Ginger Cookie Swirl Ice Cream. Trader Joe’s is well known for their ice cream choices. They have all the usual suspects like vanilla and chocolate, but they love to release seasonal ones and really odd ball stuff like Cookie Butter Ice Cream. All I can say is thank god it doesn’t have pumpkin or pumpkin spice in it! At this point, I’ll gladly take something like this over boring vanilla or pumpkin spice. Luckily, Trader Joe’s hit a home run with this ice cream.

On their website, Trader Joe’s says this ice cream has about 14% butterfat, which puts it into the “Super Premium” ice cream ranking, which is the highest level you can be in the commercial market. Trader Joe’s didn’t spare any expense making this ice cream. It’s rich and creamy. You can tell it’s high quality because it’s easier to scoop out of the container fresh from the freezer. The more fat in your ice cream, the easier it is to scoop.

You can actually smell the intermingling of ginger and maple syrup as you open the container. Speaking of the container, it’s small. 16 ounces which is two cups. I don’t know about your but two cups is about two servings, I don’t care what they say on the back of the label. But that is the only ding on this ice cream that I can figure out. The dark spots you see in the ice cream are actually chunks of ginger cookie and there are darker swirls. The swirls are the maple syrup that they “swirled” into the ice cream when they made it.

This all adds up to one powerful punch of flavor and texture. The cookies offer up a nice texture to break up the monotony of the regular ice cream texture. The cookies pieces aren’t crunchy, unfortunately, but you could always get your own and crush them on top if you really need that. I really like the play of ginger and maple, it works really good together. I think this would be a great ice cream to serve for Thanksgiving along side a nice big piece of apple pie. Yum! Nothing wrong with this at all! But it while you can because it won’t be around long!

  1. Are TJ’s going to bring out the Ginger Cookie Maple Swirl Ice Cream this year? It’s delicious, and just what an ice cream should be. Reduce the number of mochis and add this for this year.
