Yet again Trader Joe’s can’t help themselves. Instead of calling them something like “Cheesy Ham Squares” or whatever they have to give one of their products a super long name. Trader Joe’s Uncured Ham and Swiss Cheese Flaky Croissant Dough Squares! Holy cow that’s long! Well this may have a long name, but it’s couldn’t be easier to make. My son and I shared a box of these for breakfast today and I am eagerly running back to Trader Joe’s to buy more of these!

What we have here is what looks like puff pastry squares with some cheese and little tiny ham cubes sprinkled on top of them. Everything is frozen solid and individually wrapped so you don’t have to make them all at once, which I really appreciate. Thanks Trader Joe’s! This isn’t always the case. On their website they say this is croissant dough so I am going to have to go with that. The difference between croissant dough and puff pastry dough is very small, but either way, the results are very good!

I prepared these at two different times in the same toaster oven but with different methods. Trader Joe’s says to put them on a baking sheet with either aluminum foil or parchment. Don’t put them on foil. Mine stuck and I lost a couple of layers of crunchy goodness to the foil. I tried parchment on the next two and it worked perfectly. So, there is no thawing or letting them rise like the chocolate croissants they also sell in the freezer section. Just put them in a warmed up oven and bake for about 15 minutes and they are done! The puff up really nice. Much further than I thought was possible. They do retain their heat for a while so give them plenty of time to cool off. But once they are cool, you might eat the whole box! But at $4.99 a box, you might go broke doing that. I could see making a couple of boxes of these ahead of time for a brunch. You would be the hit of the party. Nobody needs to know they came from Trader Joe’s! I highly recommend these and I will be buying boxes of them for my family.
