Trader Joe’s Greek Whole Milk Eggnog Yogurt Review – Just as Trader Joe’s is mopping up the last of the Pumpkin Spice products, they are rushing to back fill with peppermint and eggnog. You know it’s Christmas season when Eggnog and peppermint infuses the air. I love the smell of eggnog in the morning…

I was eagerly looking forward to my first Eggnog infused product of the year when I spied this yogurt in the dairy case. They didn’t have many of them so I grabbed a couple thinking this would be a great addition to my morning routine for the next couple of weeks and get me warmed up for the big day on December 25th. I like eggnog just like everyone else. OK, actually I don’t think people like eggnog that much, they just like to say they like it. Mostly, they like eggnog lattes from Starbucks where the coffee flavors are a great counterbalance to the nutmeg flavors of eggnog. It’s a match made in heaven, or at least every December it seems now.

First, I am a big Greek yogurt nut. I like firm, sour yogurt. It’s my favorite. Actually, my new favorite is Skyr, but Trader Joe’s only has a couple of flavors right now, so my 2nd favorite is Greek Yogurt. In my humble opinion, Greek Yogurt should be firm and sour. The additional of sweets should be there to offset the sourness, but only to take the edge off the sour. It’s been that way for centuries. Unfortunately, this eggnog yogurt was runny and sweet. The nutmeg flavors, which are the bulk of the flavors of eggnog, came through loud and clear. Too clear. It dominated the flavors in a way that I didn’t quite enjoy. I would like it toned down a bit. Then the yogurt was runny. I have found this with Trader Joe’s Greek Yogurts over the years, they are too runny. You should be able to stick your spoon in the tub and have it stay straight up, this was more like soft ice cream that’s almost melted through.

I don’t know what I am going to do with the other tubs of this I bought. Maybe the kids will eat them. I might bake something with them, but I won’t be eating them straight. This gets a thumbs down from me.
