Trader Joe’s, the quirky supermarket where exotic spices rub elbows with frozen cauliflower gnocchi, has decided to revolutionize the yogurt aisle. Behold, their “new and improved” yogurts – Blueberry, Vanilla, Lemon, and Raspberry – now gracing the shelves in solitary splendor. Gone are the days of the commitment-phobic six-pack, where you were forced to declare your undying loyalty to not one, but two flavors, whether you liked it or not. Now, for a modest increase in price — a mere 69 cents per pot, as opposed to the budget-friendly $3.99 for a half dozen — you can enjoy the freedom of choice. That’s right, for just a few cents more, you can now avoid the horror of being stuck with that one flavor that lingered in the fridge, unloved and uneaten. Thank you, Trader Joe’s, for understanding that variety is the spice of life and sometimes, we just want to flirt with a single flavor without the commitment.

Trader Joe’s Old Yogurt Cups

Trader Joe’s has for years sold six packs of yogurt containers. 4 oz each times six. But the unfortunate part was that they were mixed. Three blueberries and three vanilla. Three Meyer Lemon and three raspberries. (For now, it looks like the Mango and Peach ones are staying the same in a six pack) so, like me and my family, we loved the blueberry but not everyone was thrilled about vanilla so the vanilla would stack up in the back of the fridge until one of the adults was forced to eat it or throw it away. People have been begging Trader Joe’s to sell these yogurts in individual cups because if you hate vanilla, you were out of luck.

Some time in the middle of 2023, most of the Trader Joe’s yogurt cups disappeared and people were quite upset on social media about what had become of them. I mean for god’s sake, those yogurt cups were the staple of people’s diets for over 10 years. I know because my kids are in college and we basically fed them these yogurt cups when they first started eating solid food.

Now we are in February 2024 and lo and behold, I walked into Trader Joe’s and what did I see? Stacks of yogurt in individual containers! It was like the gods heard our prayers! Unfortunately, all is not good but it’s a mostly good story because now you get to choose to buy individual yogurts instead of a whole six pack.

What Makes Trader Joe’s Yogurt Cups So Special?

First off, let’s talk price, because who doesn’t love a bargain? These little cups of joy are priced to sell, undercutting the competition as if the price tag itself were on a diet. At $.69 a piece they are slightly more than when in a six pack, but it’s not just your wallet that’s getting a treat. Each cup is a veritable cornucopia of sugary delight, paired with whole milk for that extra creamy, oh-so-indulgent texture. Yes, you can practically hear your gym membership crying in the distance, but who cares when there’s this much deliciousness at stake? And the pièce de résistance? Actual, visible bits of fruit swimming in the yogurt. Not just “flavor” or “essence,” but real fruit you can see and taste. It’s like a treasure hunt in every spoonful, except the prize is always the same – a burst of fruity goodness that almost, almost makes you forget about the sugar and fat content. Almost…

Trader Joe’s Yogurt Cup Flavors and Review

First off let me say that all of these yogurt cups are very good. As an adult, I appreciate all the flavors but I do have my favorites like everyone else but objectively, these are some tasty yogurts.

Secondly, these new yogurt cups seem to be the same exact yogurt that you’ve come to love over the years but just in a different format. These cups are covered in a thin aluminum foil top like so many other yogurt containers these days. The old six pack ones had a thin mylar type film on top. Both save on plastic which we can all do with less of these days.

I am a sucker for blueberries, so that is my favorite flavor. I like how you can actually see bits of blueberry in the yogurt so you know it’s not some fake flavors or all just blueberry juice. Same with the raspberry flavor, which is my second favorite of these four flavors. My third favorite is the Meyer lemon, which is my wife’s favorite flavor so we always have some around.

I appreciate the vanilla, but if the other three are there, I will always pick the other ones. I know it’s probably your favorite but we all have opinions!

All of the flavors have a very distinctive flavor that is well defined. You can taste blueberry or raspberry in the yogurt. It doesn’t taste fake, it tastes like real fruit. The vanilla tastes real. The Meyer lemon has that sweet tart lemony flavor that only Meyer lemons seem to have. All in all, in my opinion pretty high quality yogurt and of course there are no fake sugar or additives to these as is the Trader Joe’s way.

Final Thoughts

I applaud that Trader Joe’s finally did this. So many people are happy about it on social media. I honestly don’t know what took them so long, but you know Trader Joe’s they never tell us when something is going away or they make a packaging change like this, it just shows up and you go hooray! The masses love these cream yogurt cups and it has to be one of their best selling and oldest products still in the stores today.

  1. I just shopped at Trader Joe’s yesterday. I personally miss the 6-pack of Strawberry/Banana. Hope this isn’t a permanent replacement for those. They are so good!

  2. My local Trader Joe’s always runs out of this type of yogurt quickly because of limited stock. I have to call them all the time to see if they got a delivery so I don’t waste a trip. I don’t know what the supply problem is because they always seem to have lots of the Greek yogurts. I don’t care for Greek yogurt so I have to stock up when they do receive the “regular” yogurt.
