Strolling through Trader Joe’s yesterday stocking up on supplies, I decided to randomly pick up a few holiday related food items that I wouldn’t normally buy. I saw this item and said to myself, “You would never, ever buy this on your own so go for it!” I have to say this is probably one of the most shocking purchases I have ever made at Trader Joe’s!
After dinner, I was showing my wife my latest Trader Joe’s purchases, and I showed her these. She thought they might be pretty tasty – so I opened the bag. What commenced was a serious chow down that I’ve not seen in ages! My wife and two sons destroyed a bag of these Peppermint Pretzel Slims in about 15 minutes. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth but these are really tasty!
Let me break it down why they are so fabulous! First, they start with something they call a Pretzel Slim – a small thin pretzel I’ve seen before at Trader Joe’s but without the added flavors. Topped with salt, I can taste the saltiness below the sweet delicious frosting that covers the pretzel. They have the right amount of crunch beneath the sweet exterior. The coating looks like a yogurt-type coating but I think it’s frosting. But the denouement is the crushed-up candy cane like peppermint candy sprinkled on top of the pretzels. It acts as a balance to the saltiness of the pretzels. They are a perfect combination of salty/sweet! I like to crumble them up and sprinkle them on other cookies or ice cream. There are so many interesting things you could do with them. Dip them in chocolate??? That would be crazy talk!
Would I buy these again? In a second! Bags of them. Give them to your kids in their lunch (I am!). Take them to parties! Eat them by the bag! They won’t last, but they will probably be around through the new year.
I am going to rate the Peppermint Pretzel Slims 9 Bells!!
