Trader Joe’s Thai Tea Mini Mochi Review. I lived in Thailand for a couple of years when I was a kid. My father was stationed at the American embassy in Bangkok in the State Department. I was a very interesting time in my life to say the least. I was very young, so the memories are very vague at this point in my life, but I did attend the first and 2nd grade at the International School of Bangkok, which is still there to this day. One thing I do remember was the Thai tea. It was on every street corner. In those days, it was served out of a plastic bag with a straw sticking out of the corner. This was before throwaway cups became ubiquitous. It’s super easy to make. Some strong black tea, some spices, milk and ice cubes. Brings back a lot of memories.

I saw this in the freezer section a couple of weeks back and had to try it. I thought it was going to be the weirdest thing I had ever tried, but I was quite surprised at how good it was. I fed these to my hungry teenagers without telling them what it was and they didn’t react at all. I don’t think they knew what Thai tea tastes like. One said it tasted kind of like a cookie but in ice cream form. I can’t disagree with that. Some of the spice flavors from spiced cookies are very similar. They had already tried Mochi, but usually fruit flavors like Mango.

These are mini mochi, the real deal is much bigger, but these are a great bite size. Light brown and they have a coconut thai tea filling. I really liked this. I wish Trader Joe’s would come out with a Thai Tea flavored ice cream, it was that good. The mochi skin was a little weird. If you didn’t eat them fast enough, things thawed out and the skin slipped off, but that was a minor quibble. The interior didn’t taste too weird and I quite liked it. I’ll definitely buy another box soon!
