Trader Joe’s Butter Toffee Pretzels

I really wanted to like these Trader Joe’s Butter Toffee Pretzels. I really, really did but these are just too weird for me. I bought a bag thinking how could these be bad? Trader Joe’s has so many pretzels covered in something yummy. Chocolate, sugar, pretzels filled with peanut butter. Pretzels crushed up and put in chocolate. The list goes on and on and on. Most of them are very, very good and I could go through a bag of chocolate covered pretzels in minutes.

Unfortunately, this one is a huge miss for us. I thought it was just me, but I got the whole family around to taste them. First Becky had the same reaction as me. They are sweet and salty and crunchy but the butter toffee just doesn’t mix will with the whole thing. If they added some chocolate to the mix, I might be onboard with it.

Even my teenage kids who pretty much hoover up anything I have to eat in the house, ate one each and decide they didn’t like them. They said they tasted “weird”. I even tried them on our labradoodles and both of them took one bite and spit them out. We are talking about dogs here! They eat everything!!!!

Sorry Trader Joe’s, this one is a big miss for us and I will rate them only 1 bell! Add some chocolate to them and I’ll try them again.

If you want to really make something good out of them, try making some Butter Toffee Pretzel Bark. Recipe from Trader Joes:

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 bar TJ’s Pound Plus Milk Chocolate, broken into chunks
  • 1 ½ cups TJ’s Butter Toffee Pretzels, divided
  • 1 ½ cups TJ’s Mini Marshmallows, divided

DIRECTIONS

Line a quarter-sheet rimmed baking pan with parchment paper. Spread 1 cup pretzels and 1 cup marshmallows in an even layer in pan, set aside.

Fill a sauce pot half-full with water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to allow the water to simmer. Rest a large stainless bowl over the top of the pan, making sure that the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water. Add chocolate to the top bowl and stir occasionally as chocolate melts, until it becomes smooth. Turn off heat.

Pour melted chocolate over lined pan, using a spatula to smooth it evenly across pretzels and marshmallows. Top melted chocolate with remaining pretzels and marshmallows. Refrigerate for 2 hours or until firm. Remove from refrigerator and let sit 15 minutes before slicing.
